Course Developer - Engineering Technology

Kansas State University Olathe (https://olathe.k-state.edu) is seeking a contract Course Developer with subject matter expertise in Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field to develop one online course in the Computer and Science Technology area.

This contract position will be responsible for developing CMST 302: Applications in C Programming for Engineering Technology, a three-credit-hour course designed for asynchronous/synchronous online delivery (Courses - Kansas State University). The completed course will be built in Canvas and prepared for faculty use.

About This Contract
This is a temporary contract position focused on course development only. The contractor will develop one complete, three-credit-hour online course consisting of approximately 16 modules. The course must be delivered as a completed Canvas course shell.
The contract does not include ongoing course maintenance, teaching, or future course updates unless agreed upon separately.

Scope of Work
The contractor will be responsible for developing a complete online course that includes:
  • A 16-module Canvas course shell
  • Course structure and module organization
  • Student-facing learning materials and instructions
  • Learning objectives aligned with course outcomes
  • Assignments, assessments, discussions, projects, or other learning activities
  • Rubrics or grading criteria, as applicable
  • Recommended readings, resources, or instructional content
  • Faculty-facing notes or guidance for course delivery, as needed
  • Materials that support synchronous online instruction
  • Content that aligns with ADA accessibility expectations and U.S. copyright guidelines

Contract Terms
  • Contract length: 8 weeks, with final completion by Friday, August 7, 2026.
    • Initial course map due by Friday, June 12, 2026.
    • First 8 modules due by Monday, July 6, 2026
    • Full draft shell due by Monday, August 3, 2026
    • Final revisions completed by Friday, August 7, 2026.

  • Course to be developed: CMST 302 - Applications in C Programming for Engineering Technology
  • Compensation: $3,000, paid upon completion and approval of the final course shell. Final payment will be made after the completed course shell has been reviewed and accepted by the designated K-State Olathe academic or program representative.
  • Final deliverable: One completed Canvas course shell for faculty use.
  • This contract is for course development only and does not include course maintenance or instruction.
  • All course materials developed under this contract will become the property of Kansas State University Olathe upon final payment.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field;
    or associate degree plus five years of relevant professional experience.
  • Two or more years of experience in instructional design, educational technology, distance learning, curriculum development, or online course development.
  • Experience using Canvas, Blackboard, or a similar learning management system.
  • Knowledge of online teaching, online learning, or digital course design.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to develop accessible instructional materials in alignment with ADA expectations.
  • Ability to follow U.S. copyright guidelines when selecting or developing course materials.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing online courses in Canvas.
  • Experience with C programming, engineering technology, computer science, or related technical course content.
  • Experience developing courses for higher education.
  • Knowledge of Quality Matters or similar online course design standards.
  • Experience creating rubrics, assessments, and applied learning activities.
  • Experience designing courses for working adults or professional learners.
