About the Position:
The Department of Biological Science is dedicated to educating the individual student using active-learning, inquiry-based approaches. Our program is distinctive in the region in the number of excellent opportunities that are available for faculty-mentored undergraduate research and a commitment to integrating teaching and research. Our mission is to help guide students to acquire the skills, develop the attitudes, and master the information necessary to continue their education, obtain desirable employment in biology-related careers, and be productive citizens. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Animal Care Facility Specialist (Instructional Support Technician III). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Animal Care Facility Specialist (Instructional Support Technician III) will oversee all animal room activities for both the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (Department of Biological Science and Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry) and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (Department of Psychology) in compliance with all Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations with oversight of animal care and use. Coordinates animal use in all teaching and research applications and will advise faculty and research students (both graduate and undergraduate) in all matters relevant to proper animal care and use. Must be certified by the Animal Technician Certification Board of American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) as a "Laboratory Animal Technologist" or licensed by the State of California as an Animal Health Technologist (AHL). Must work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Will be expected to train and provide lead work to others to assist in the care of animals and the maintenance of the animal housing. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Four years of experience or the equivalent providing instructional support services, producing materials and supplies, or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the assigned area. Completion of two years of college from an accredited institution with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment in a related discipline may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Completion of four years of college or the equivalent from an accredited institution with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment in a related discipline may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

Knowledge of the principles, methods, and information related to performing support services related to the discipline. Knowledge of the materials and supplies related to the curriculum, their characteristics, and uses. Ability to plan, organize, and schedule work. Ability to operate and repair technical and scientific equipment. Ability to coordinate support service to meet a comprehensive variety of needs. Ability to develop off-campus resources related to the discipline for obtaining materials or equipment.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a field associated with laboratory animal care and medicine. Experience in managing an animal facility and staff in an academic setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word) particularly regarding communication, calendaring, and the use of spreadsheets or databases to record and analyze information Ability to work independently. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills with an attention to detail. Ability to work efficiently under pressure in the face of interruptions. Practice a high level of integrity and honesty relative to issues of confidentiality. Demonstrate ingenuity, resourcefulness, and adaptability.
