About the Position:
The College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) is committed to educating engineers and computer scientists who will graduate with state-of-the art knowledge in their chosen field and are ready to embark on careers in industry and government, or proceed to acquire advanced degrees in their own or related fields. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Civil and Environmental Engineering Instructional Support Technician III. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Instructional Support Technician III supports faculty in Civil and Environmental Engineering laboratory courses and research. Purchases, sets up, calibrates, and repairs laboratory equipment. Assists students in undergraduate and graduate laboratory work. Plans and develops systems for acquisition and dispensing of materials and supplies. Writes specifications and seeks resources for gathering and buying rare or unique materials and equipment. Develops schedules for minimizing downtime of equipment while using knowledge of discipline and materials. Works with faculty to assist in the development of new instructional offerings dependent on materials, supplies, and equipment support. Assists or solves problems related to materials substitutions, costs, or new equipment. Maintains records and prepares reports. Plans and schedules activities. Coordinates a variety of activities involving services provided by others such as technical equipment repair. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Four years of experience or the equivalent providing instructional support services, producing materials and supplies, or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the assigned area. Completion of two years of college from an accredited institution with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment in a related discipline may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Completion of four years of college or the equivalent from an accredited institution with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment in a related discipline may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

Knowledge of the principles, methods, and information related to performing support services related to the discipline. Knowledge of the materials and supplies related to the curriculum, their characteristics, and uses. Ability to plan, organize, and schedule work. Ability to operate and repair technical and scientific equipment. Ability to coordinate support service to meet a comprehensive variety of needs. Ability to develop off-campus resources related to the discipline for obtaining materials or equipment.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university in engineering or the equivalent technical experience of at least five years. Experience with typical machine shop tools, computers for data acquisition, fork lifts, cranes, and servo-hydraulic test equipment. Possession of fundamental computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and experience troubleshooting LabView programs.
