Summary Position
The Assistant Director of Learning Experiences and Operations serves as a member of the leadership team within Teaching and Learning Technologies (TLT). This team develops and advances the learning experiences of students with a focus on the use and maintenance of facilities and equipment in the television studios, control rooms, Maker Hubs, and two equipment checkout centers. These services and operations support a broad range of academic and administrative programs and initiatives, as well as large university events. This position provides leadership, management, support, and guidance to the team, empowering them to successfully carry out their mission and continually improve the learning experience at Elon. Teaching and Learning Technologies is a part of the larger Information Technology organization.

    • At least five (5) years of relevant experience, with experience in hands-on video production/broadcast experience (could include work related to coordinating producer, scheduling producer, studio management, work at a television station or live sports production and/or scheduling).

    • Strong technology skills with extensive experience using Microsoft Office 365 and video production tools (Ross Video). Experience with audio/visual equipment.
    • Excellent organizational and time-management skills; demonstrated ability to anticipate problems, regularly exercise independent judgment, respond quickly and appropriately to issues and opportunities as they arise.
    • Skilled in budget management, allocation of resources, and advocating for needs.
    • Experience managing technical projects is preferred.

    General Purpose of Position

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    1. Lead the Learning Experiences and Operations Team. (40% of time)
    • Supervise a team of approximately 4 staff positions (engineers, instructional technologist, equipment checkout lead) and 70 student staff. Provide leadership and guidance in the daily operations, mission, and vision of the team.
    • Promote a culture of continual growth and professional development. Help staff achieve their career goals including assigning work which leverages their skills and capabilities and provides them with opportunities for learning. Evaluate staff performance.
    • Facilitate strong communication and information sharing. Lead staff in the understanding of university, division, and departmental priorities and objectives.
    • Empower the team and pave the way for successful work through strategic partnerships, addressing challenges, and reducing barriers.
    • Manage a budget, effectively use existing resources, and advocate for additional resources to ensure delivery and advancement of services.
    • Establish sustainable IT support models for new service offerings.
    • Develop and maintain a sense of confidence and trust in technology support internal to the department and external throughout the university community.



    2. Advance the use of facilities and equipment to sustain operational work and promote student learning. (25% of time)
    • Provide leadership and guidance to support video engineering work:
      • Consult with clients and technology staff to determine the most appropriate video technologies for production and broadcast facilities, infrastructure, and projects. Assist with planning, budgeting, procurement, implementation, and management/upgrades.
      • Coordinate with campus partners to identify and provide solutions for advanced video support for large scale university event productions. Serve as the executive producer for high-profile events.
    • Provide leadership and guidance to support the operational work of the Maker Hubs, Media Services, and the Gear Room. Ensure alignment of work with academic and administrative programs, strategic priorities, and initiatives.
    • Ensure that TLTs services and operations provide engaged learning opportunities for students through student employment opportunities and utilization of services.
    • Provide reporting to showcase the teams work, identify areas for improvement, and change service offerings.
    • Champion and advocate for the user experience, maker education, digital accessibility, and copyright.
    • Stay current with trends and new developments related to the teams mission.

    3. Facilitate TLT and IT cross-team collaboration and project management. (20% of time)
    • Serve as an active team member of the TLT Leadership Team. Collaborate with other TLT Leaders and staff to ensure strong communication, transparency, information sharing, effective teamwork and synergy between staff, and the successful utilization of skill sets across the department to serve our mission and vision.
    • Facilitate TLT staff meetings, rotating responsibilities with other leaders.
    • Be an active and contributing member of the IT Leadership Team, participating in Associate/Assistant Director meetings to represent TLT and advance ITs work.
    • Periodically serve as a project manager and project sponsor for technology roll-outs.

    4. Create, foster, and facilitate key relationships and partnerships across campus to identify needs and strategize, develop, and implement solutions. (15% of time)
    • Key partnerships include the School of Communications, Athletics, Elon Sports Vision, Event Technology Services, Cultural and Special Programs, student media, and Schools/Colleges/programs utilizing these facilities and equipment to support student engagement and learning.
    • Serve as a liaison to other video stakeholders at Elon (e.g., University Communications, School of Communications, Athletics, Library, other Technology units, etc.) to identify video infrastructure needs and solutions across the university.
    • Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration (within IT and throughout the university) to provide technology solutions and operations that serve the mission in support of university initiatives.
    • Build and sustain vendor relationships.
