The Faculty Instructional Technology Center (FITC)  provides enterprise solutions and support for the creation, delivery, and management of instruction in person, online, and in mixed modalities. The FITC is a primary resource for instructional designers, instructional technologists, faculty, and staff seeking solutions to achieve instructional goals. The FITC provides service management and support for the campus LMS (Canvas) and related third-party applications, the campus media storage and serving service (YuJa), the use of Zoom for instruction, the campus Student Experience of Teaching Surveys (SETs) service (Blue), accessible instructional technology, and management of media creation and editing studios, faculty lab, and active learning classrooms.

Job Overview
This position requires an interdisciplinary approach involving many areas of information and instructional technologies and user experience.  Applies professional concepts, department/unit and campus/OP policies and procedures to resolve a variety of complex issues related to instruction. Analyzes complex issues, and within defined procedures and practices, determines appropriate action. Has both internal and external contacts, including direct contact with faculty. Applies knowledge of instructional best practices to provide faculty support as well as systems administration, analytical problem-solving, and technical support for UC Santa Cruz' enterprise collaborative learning environments.

This position supports the Learning Management System (LMS), media management system, student response systems, Student Experience of Teaching Survey system (SETs) solution, and related instructional technology solutions. Assists instructional designers and instructors in applying technical solutions to achieve pedagogical goals. Technical professional with knowledge in the overall fields of software applications, enterprise solutions and instructional technology and recognized expertise in specific areas, including learning management solutions, webcasting, distance learning, student engagement tools, media production, and accessible technologies.

Problem solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure. Normally receives general instructions, with detailed instructions provided on complex new project assignments and initiatives.

Starting Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000/year. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

Job Duties
30% - Maintain and Support Instructional Products
Troubleshoots and resolves the most complex issues for all supported instructional products. Participates in the design of and coordinates the work flow of support requests, setting priorities and tracking resolution. Ensures compliance with and provides input to service level agreements. Consults with faculty and instructional designers and provides technology solutions in appropriate instructional frameworks.

25% - Canvas LMS Technical Lead
Technical lead for Canvas LMS and related instructional applications. Makes configuration changes, and contributes to recommendations for purchase or upgrade of related software and services. Performs moderately complex analysis to acquire, install, test, and maintain related software and services. Trains users. Tracks updates, maintains technical websites related to products and services.

25% - Yuja LMS Technical Lead
Technical lead and  backup admin for YuJa media management system and related instructional applications. Makes configuration changes, and contributes to recommendations for purchase or upgrade of related software and services. Performs moderately complex analysis to acquire, install, test, and maintain related software and services. Trains users. Tracks updates, maintains technical websites related to products and services.

10% - DRC Liaison
Technical lead for accessible technologies for instruction. Liaison with the Disability Resource Center (DRC). Provides support and performs moderately complex analysis to acquire, install, test, and maintain related software and services.. Trains users. Tracks updates, maintains technical websites related to products and services.

5% - Campus Student Response App Technical Lead
Technical lead for campus student response solution and other third-party solutions. Makes configuration changes, and contributes to recommendations for purchase or upgrade of related software and services. Performs moderately complex analysis to acquire, install, test, and maintain related software and services. Trains users. Negotiates project plans with stakeholders.Tracks updates, maintains technical websites related to products and services.

5% - Additional FITC Support
Trains and manages student workforce for instructional solutions support. Participates in recruitment and hiring. Provides support for the FITC's Active Learning Classrooms, media studios, and lab facilities.

ITS Security Statement
Information Technology positions are responsible for the security of UC Institutional Information and IT Resources. The incumbent is required to follow all applicable information security policies, procedures, and standards to maintain minimum standards of information security for data, systems and applications. Supervisors are responsible for making sure their staff have appropriate security skills and qualifications, and complete all appropriate and required security training.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Broad knowledge of various areas of IT.
  • Demonstrated ability to install software and troubleshoot and repair moderately complex problems with computing devices, peripherals and software.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent/related functions.
  • Thorough knowledge of business and process analysis functions. Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
  • Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.
  • Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.
  • Familiarity with data quality and governance issues and requirements.
  • Understanding of project management and service management principles.
  • Experience in incident response and digital forensics, including data collection, examination and analysis.
  • Thorough understanding of rich media production methods and equipment. Ability to create content using rich media production methods. Experience with standard Productivity tools, including PowerPoint, Keynote, Word, Excel.
  • Ability to create training programs, including workshop development and delivery.
  • Experience effectively interacting with students, faculty, and staff of varying social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently on complex technical projects as well as on a team of technical professionals and departmental decision-makers.
