The Assistant Director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Utah helps lead and manage this very special, endowed, peer-led program designed specifically for adult learners ages 50+. This role is ideal for a dynamic, organized, and collaborative professional who is passionate about adult education and community building.
About Osher
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is a non-degree-granting program offering non-credit academic courses, lectures, special events, social interest groups, and opportunities for community engagement. The Institute serves a community of over 1,700 members.
As a key member of the five-person Osher team, the Assistant Director:

Responsibilities
Curriculum & Program Management
Serve as Curriculum Coordinator, overseeing the development, scheduling, and evaluation of all Osher courses and lectures
Ensure courses and instructors are evaluated, provide identifying success measurements, and integrate feedback and suggestions into future course offerings
Collaborate with instructors and volunteers serving on the Curriculum Committee to ensure a diverse and engaging course catalog
Research, develop, and implement potential new program topics for curriculum and special events that align with Osher's mission, subject areas, and member interests
Volunteer Management
Provide and host volunteer recognition events and rewards
Recruit, train, and mentor new volunteers as needed
Identify volunteer leaders and teach Osher Behind the Scenes Classes
Steward volunteer relationships
Instructor Management
Manage all instructor relationships, including recruitment, onboarding, and support
Cultivate new instructor partnerships
Respond to daily instructor communications and provide timely support
Oversee the Letter of Agreement (LOA) process for instructors
Publications & Communications
Lead the creation and management of the publication of the Osher course brochure for four terms each year
Coordinate with marketing and design teams to ensure timely and accurate publication of materials.
Academic Support
Manage the collection and review of instructors' course syllabi
Ensure all course materials are submitted promptly and accessible to members and staff
Member Engagement & Customer Service
Provide an excellent, high level of customer service to members, volunteers, and instructors
Respond to requests, complaints, concerns, feedback, and suggestions
Support registration processes, course evaluations, and data tracking
Make recommendations for improvement to processes
Collaborate with the Director on strategic planning, reporting, and community outreach

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department's area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.
Master's degree in a related area may be preferred.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Preferences
Bachelor's degree in education, business management or related field, Master's degree preferred, plus three years of increased responsibility and demonstrated interest in program management and development, curriculum creation, customer relations, and community building.
Experience working with the specific needs of adult learners and sensitivity to the unique qualities of older adults. Familiarity and experience in adult education, including trends and issues that affect the field.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence others to effectively execute initiatives with a broad range of individuals.
Proven success in management, motivation, and oversight of volunteers and/or instructors.
Exceptional organization skills to facilitate planning, organization, and scheduling in an efficient, productive manner; ability to anticipate contingencies and pay attention to detail; flexibility with late-breaking changes; and a spirit of collaboration to enable working within a team of five, plus with other Continuing Education departments, staff members, and programs.
Proficiency in a variety of general office software applications and the ability to easily and quickly learn new tools.

Work Schedule Summary: Classes take place on weekdays and into the evening. Special events can be during the day or evening. Both classes and special events may be held off-site or on Zoom. This position is expected to build relationships with instructors, students, and other members of the community, especially while classes are in session. The anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm, and evenings as needed.
