Position Description
Directs, plans, coordinates and supervises the operations and activities of a specialized unit or small department; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Serves as liaison with university personnel and community at large. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgement.
Major/Essential Functions
- Lead innovation in digital learning by using data-driven insights to identify, pilot, and scale new instructional models, tools, and media that improve student outcomes and build educator capacity.
- Direct strategic planning, design, and delivery of K-12 digital courses, ensuring alignment with relevant state standards, institutional goals, and online pedagogical best practices
- Oversee the full course development lifecycle (analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation) to ensure rigor, accessibility, engagement, and quality.
- Integrate cutting-edge research in cognitive science, instructional design, and digital pedagogy into curriculum frameworks and quality assurance processes.
- Ensure courses prepare students for success on high-stakes assessments and support diverse learners, including those requiring Section 504 or IDEA accommodations.
- Ensure all curriculum and professional learning initiatives comply with state and federal requirements, accessibility regulations (e.g., WCAG 2.1 AA), and institutional policies, supported by proper documentation and adoption workflows.
- Collaborate with instructional design, technology, LMS administration, and assessment teams to ensure smooth course implementation, technical quality, and a high-quality user experience for both students and educators.
- Partner closely with assessment teams to align curriculum content to test blueprints, cognitive rigor guidelines, and item specifications.
- Design and oversee a cohesive professional learning strategy that prepares educators to implement curriculum effectively-leveraging adult learning principles and measurable impact metrics.
- Recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing curriculum and professional learning staff, fostering continuous improvement and building future leadership capacity.
- Manage departmental budgets, ensuring delivery of projects on time and within budget.
- Oversee vendor relationships for curriculum and professional learning services, ensuring that deliverables and contracts meet institutional standards.
- Establish and monitor meaningful metrics to evaluate curriculum quality, educator engagement, and student achievement outcomes.
- Represent TTU K-12 in state, regional, and national education forums, building partnerships and maintaining visibility as a leader in K-12 digital curriculum and professional learning.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area required plus five years progressively responsible management experience. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 7 years' experience in K-12 digital curriculum development, instructional design, or a related field, including a minimum of 3 years in supervisory or leadership roles.
- Demonstrated success in designing, developing, and implementing comprehensive digital K-12 curriculum products for virtual learning environments. Experience limited to using classroom management or delivery platforms (e.g., Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams) does not meet this requirement.
- Proven leadership in designing and delivering professional learning initiatives for educators.
- Master's degree in Curriculum, Education, Instructional Design, or related field.
- Experience in a district- or state-level leadership role overseeing both curriculum and professional learning functions.
- Experience managing large-scale curriculum adoption and instructional materials review processes.
- Familiarity with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards and STAAR/EOC assessment frameworks.
- Experience designing research-informed professional learning programs that yield measurable changes in educator practice.
