Digital Learning Specialist

About the Opportunity

Job Summary

The Digital Learning Specialist will work with College faculty, subject matter experts, staff, and external partners to support the College of Professional Studies' goals around academic quality, faculty development, and pedagogical and product innovation. The successful candidate will work strategically with Principal Instructors, Faculty Leads, and others to regularly assess course and program revision needs, evaluate new or enhanced digital tools and solutions that support and/or enhance the learner experience, and to connect faculty members with the appropriate support channels and resources. The Digital Learning Specialist will also advance the College's innovation strategy and goals by providing hands on learning design and development support for new and emerging learning solution approaches, prototypes, and pilots.

Please note: The Digital Learning Specialist will provide focused expertise and support in one of two areas, each described in the Responsibility section below. 60% Faculty Training & Development
  • Develop, design, and deliver comprehensive training resources and workshops that enhance the skills and competencies of faculty members.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify faculty development needs and gaps. Leverage academic quality data and collect feedback from program leads, faculty, administrators, and others to determine areas where training and support are needed. Tailor solutions to meet the needs of specific program areas or faculty groups.
  • Develop, share and maintain training materials, resources, and tools to support faculty development initiatives. These may include instructional guides or websites, handouts, online modules, instructional videos, and other multimedia resources. Ensure that the materials are up-to-date, relevant, and accessible to faculty members.
  • Facilitate interactive and hands-on workshops. Enlist faculty and staff in providing examples of effective practice and co-facilitating workshops for faculty both asynchronously and synchronously.
  • Assess the effectiveness of faculty development programming and initiatives using a variety of evaluation methods, including surveys, focus groups, and quantitative data analyses. Use the evaluation results to inform improvements and adjustments to future training and resources.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on faculty development-related matters and actively participate in institutional committees and initiatives.

60% Curriculum & Assessment Design
  • Consult with Program Leads, Principal Instructors, and others to design and map course and program curricula or to revise existing curricula;
  • Help faculty and subject matter experts construct robust course-level learning outcomes, module level learning objectives (tagged to skills), formative and summative assessment and activities;
  • Ensure the broader mapping and alignment between individual course elements and outcomes to broader program curricula;
  • Support efforts to establish self-, and/or peer-review processes to assess course quality and revision planning;
  • Contribute to the development of guidelines and processes that support consistent curriculum management and quality review processes; and
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on faculty development-related matters and actively participate in institutional committees and initiatives.


30% Portfolio-Based Digital Learning Support
  • Consult with faculty course developers on all aspects of course design and digital learning approaches as described in the CPS Quality Framework. Review courses as requested to offer feedback and suggestions for improvement.
  • Provide individualized coaching and support to faculty members to enhance their teaching skills. Work closely with faculty and program leads on an ongoing basis to address specific needs and challenges.
  • Ensure courses are designed in alignment with CPS Quality standards, and that all CPS faculty have the knowledge and supports needed to be successful.
  • Consult and strategize with faculty on experiential learning approaches, etc., digital tools, program outcomes alignment, and other factors that support an exceptional learner experience
  • Stay abreast of current trends, research, and effective practices in higher education and faculty development. Keep informed about emerging instructional technologies, pedagogical approaches, and assessment strategies.


10% Innovation support
  • Collaborating with academic units to support CPS innovation initiatives or pilot projects related to the digital teaching and learning experience;
  • Staying abreast of emerging technologies and workplace learning trends in order to surface new opportunities to College leadership, as appropriate.
  • Participating and assisting in special projects, as needed.


Qualifications
  • Must be able to work well across multiple constituencies: CPS faculty and instructors, administrators, and those providing support via centralized services;
  • Master's degree in Learning Design, Educational Technology, or related fields;
  • 5 years experience in corporate or higher education settings
  • Proven experience with Learning Management Environment (LME) administration
  • Must understand, and be attentive to, the unique needs and behaviors of an adult/professional teaching and learning audience
  • Must be able to balance organizational processes
  • Proven track record of effective and results driven problem solving, and decision-making.
  • Ability to think and act pragmatically and strategically
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to adapt to change.
