POSITION PURPOSE

The Sr. Instructional Technology Resource Specialist will provide leadership, expertise, and excellent customer service while working collaboratively with faculty to create effective teaching and learning experiences with technology. They will use instructional design principles to create a broad range of support services, including faculty consultations, workshops, and web resources. They will select, design, produce, and implement effective instructional technology resources to promote student success. The successful candidate will have a passion for education and the mission of the University, a commitment to collaborative teamwork and creative problem solving, and a proven track record of researching and selecting the best technologies and practices in teaching and learning with technologies in Higher Ed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist faculty with integrating technology into their courses by blending technology resources with effective pedagogical strategies

Promote and expand the use of instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning

Develop workshops and one-on-one sessions to support faculty teaching face to face, blended, flipped, hybrid, and online courses

Project management and faculty consultation for digital technology projects

Plan for future developments and use of technology in instruction

Provide technical support to faculty and students

Assist faculty with integrating technology into their courses by blending technology resources with effective pedagogical strategies

Consult with faculty to identify instructional development needs.

Identify appropriate existing internal and external resources.

Recommend technology solutions to meet instructional goals and objectives.

Provide guidance on the development and implementation of online course materials and student technology assignments

Create and maintain LMS, digital video and audio editors, web, blogs, eportfolio, and wiki resources to assist faculty.

Share best practices on assessing the impact of technology efforts on student learning.

Provide classroom instruction and student support for multimedia assignments

Be available to faculty and students.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Promote and expand the use of instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning

Promote instructional technology to faculty through a variety of activities, including workshops, faculty forums, informal brown bag lunches, and vendor demos.

Support faculty transitioning to hybrid/blended/flipped and fully online courses.

Advise on innovation opportunities incorporating new learning technologies.

Develop long-term collaborative partnerships with faculty.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Develop workshops to support faculty teaching face to face, blended, flipped, hybrid, and online courses

Work together in a team to develop, teach, and support faculty technology workshops (short, day long, and multiple day)

Design and develop instructional materials for team-delivered instruction.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Project management and faculty consultation for digital technology projects

Meet with faculty on a one-time and on-going basis to consult.

Coordinate Information Services resources as needed to collaborate on projects, e.g., Library Information Resource Specialists or Web Applications support.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Plan for future developments and use of technology in instruction

Stay current in the field through journals, online resources, networking with colleagues, attending conferences, etc.

Share expertise with colleagues in department and Information Services.

Collaborate with other Information Services groups as appropriate to guide and plan for future instructional technology needs.

Champion use of instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Provide technical support to faculty and students

Be available to provide walk-in, phone, and email support to faculty and students.

Provide primary administrative support for LMS (currently Canvas), including account creation, course importing, troubleshooting, escalating technical problems and liaising with vendors.

Provide administrative/user support for other enterprise tools and applications, e.g., Wikis, Blogs, Google for Education, and ePortfolios, etc.

Collaborate with other Information Services groups as appropriate to support our instructional technology platforms.

Provide multimedia hardware/software expertise including troubleshooting

Assist in support of Faculty Development and Multimedia Labs.

Perform other duties as assigned.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services.

Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices.

Maintains contact with customers and solicits feedback for improved services.

Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives.

Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow.

Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions.

Prepares and submits reports as requested and required.

Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with the campus community in a tactful, patient, and courteous manner.
  • Innovation in instructional design and multimedia development for traditional, blended, hybrid and online courses.
  • Demonstrated competence in written and oral communication and experience designing tutorials, workshops, and online learning materials.
  • Demonstrated competence in presentation and teaching, both one-on-one and in-class setting.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment as a member of a larger team.
  • Extensive experience and proficiency with a variety of instructional technologies, including LMS, multimedia authoring/production tools (e.g., iMovie, Garage Band, Final Cut, Adobe Premiere, etc.); construction of web sites (e.g., WordPress, Weebly, Google Sites, etc.), web programming, web communication tools, graphic applications (e.g., Photoshop, Picasa, or equivalent) and design; social media, mobile technologies and apps.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and identify software application problems and implement solutions, and experience working in a multi-platform Mac and Windows environment.
  • Fast learner with good problem solving skills.
  • Creative, with an enthusiasm for new media.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, be self-motivated, and show initiative.
  • Excellent writing, editing, organizational, analytical, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and communicate with both technical and non-technical personnel as well as a diverse population of students, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy (often chaotic) and demanding information services environment, while maintaining a sense of humor.
  • Responsible and dependable with good attendance and work habits.


Education and/or Experience
  • Master's degree in instructional design, instructional technology, or equivalent appropriate academic preparation, plus 3 - 5 years relevant experience in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design principles including performance-based outcomes assessments.
  • Extensive and successful record of teaching and/or working with faculty (higher education preferred but not required), with demonstrated ability to understand and interpret educational needs and develop effective instructional media solutions, working projects from concept through completion.
